Here, I summarise the clinical features of Covid-19 from 21 case reports, case series and descriptive studies (including Zhong Nanshan’s large cohort published in medrxiv).
Demographic features of 2,198 patients and clinical characteristics of 1,689 patients are now available.
- Most infected patients develop CXR abnormalities. Either fever or cough is usually present, but asymptomatic infection is now well described.
- Symptomatic disease in children appears less common and is usually mild.
- About 1 in every 5 persons develop severe disease (high oxygen requirements, mechanical ventilation, ICU admission), and these tend to be elderly with underlying comorbidities.
- Overall mortality is 5.2%. However, many patients in this cohort had not been discharged at the time of publication, so their final outcome is unknown.
